Can I submit my physics series as one article? Like, however far I get, just grade them all and sumbit the average or something?

Hm, I'm thinking no. Otherwise things get too complicated.

Besides, you'd be better off having them all judged individually. Averaging their scores would only serve to bring down the best of the bunch... and you'll need a good score to win some prize money!

Hm, it doesn't really matter if I wrote an article how to make (good) use of an open-source library like Lua, or a physics thing, or a graphics thing.. as long as it's game related? :)

If we won some money, but we didn't want to go to the trouble of making a paypal account, could you just send the money to whatever charity or whatever we wanted to send it to?

As long as it's game development related, you can write anything you want!

As long as they accept PayPal payments, yes.

While technically accurate, the sentence "... you could win up to $200USD!" is a bit misleading. It makes it sound like first prize is $200 USD, which is not the case.

Just thought I would mention it.. :)

Nah, I'd leave it. After all it is true that you could win $200.

That's how advertisers work, yea!?

So... what exactly constitutes a tutorial? I am working on a .NET Performance Guide (Myths, Performance Considerations, Best Practices, Explanation of Profiling Tools, etc.) Its not strictly game related, but it will all be very applicable to writing games. And I think performance is something most game programmers care about. But its not a step-by-step type tutorial sort of topic, would it qualify?

Well, the prize amounts are clearly stated if you click the link and read the rules ;) So yes, it might be slightly misleading, but the worst it'll do is cause someone to read a few more lines than they would've otherwise :)

Besides, if I'm putting out $200 of my own dollars, everyone should know about it! :ego :lol

Yes, it would certainly qualify. Anything that can be used for game development is acceptable.

Hmmm... I just thought of something. Once people start uploading the tutorials they write, what's to stop other people from substantially changing the article before the deadline?

I suppose you'd just have to look in the history and read the last version solely written by the main author.

Hey Ryan, can you remove NOEDIT tags, since your admin?

If so, when your done withn your tutorial, just put __NOEDIT__ (or whatever it is). Then its locked.

Then after, he could unlock them. But that might be allotta work

Yes. I'll base my judgement on the most recent version of the page edited by the original author.

Wiki fairies may improve your page for you, and then you can make more changes after (thereby endorsing or removing the changes made by the other party)... so the fairies may, in this way, help your article improve. So the sooner you post your article, the better :)

The image on the wiki is incorrect, you cannot click on it. I tried to get it to work (too) but it's impossible with MediaWiki afaik.

Ok so I started my coding on my game engine and got one of the cores done. I just now added two pages, an overview and system core. The overview should be done and I'm about 1/3rd of the way through the system core. So now I got a few questions as I haven't really messed with the wiki before.

How do I upload files? I want to upload the full source for each core at the end of the tutorials for reference. Should I add my name to the very end of the tutorial to take credit or is it more like a community thing were the author remain anonmous. I'm also not sure if I placed it in the right place, if its in a bad area where should I move it to? Lastley what do you think so far? is it clear, am I missing something and lastley is this even useful to anyone?

Link to pages I have made. I will be editing that post when I make the other tutorials.

If you're logged in to the wiki, you should see an "Upload Files" link in the toolbox on the left side of the screen.

Seoushi wrote:

You can if you want to, but people will always be able to tell who created the tutorial by looking at the edit history.

Also, be sure to link your tutorial from this page:

http://gpwiki.org/index.php/Game_Progra ... Entry_List

You can take credit for it there.

Looks correct!

It looks good so far! Keep it up :)

Thanks for the help. Both of those tutorials are now complete so everyone wants to look at them go read them and learn something (hopefully). Now to write the graphics core and possibley sleep heh.

I think anyone who does a tutorial in Lingo should get a prize for writing the first thing of any use to John :lol

Alright guys, I think it's time to start spreading the word about this contest. I'd like to brainstorm to try to come up with a list of sites we can approach with an announcement.

I'll go first :)

devmaster.net
gamedev.net
nehe.gamedev.net
forums.indiegamer.com

Anyone else have ideas? Sites with "announcements" forums would be ideal.
