Oh good, they're putting some work into the audio. Right now, I have to spawn my music in a separate thread since the damn thing takes up to about 4 seconds to load, freezing the system in the meanwhile (though now that I type that, wonder if I failed to set up some kind of streaming flags...).

Speaking of XNA audio, which may be a bit of a stretch for this thread, anyone know why there is such a dependence on Windows Media Player for XNA? It doesn't seem you can play audio at all (throws exceptions) if you don't have WMP installed. I know its not usually an issue as most people leave WMP on their system, but its these kinds of little things that add up that make distribution harder.

I'm assuming you mean the SoundEffect class? I don't believe doing audio using XACT is based on it. I would imagine the dependency is for x-platform ease of development.
