Hey all!

short introduction:
I'm 'Seth' and know some programming languages (java, php, mysql, vba etc)
a week ago i started with my unicorn language: C++
(unicorn language: the one ive been doing this for)
why ? = programming games and applications.

so what am i looking for?
starting programmers in C++ (about 2 minimum) - or absolute noobies :D
starting 3D max designer (i can get the license for free dont worry) - no nothing illegal
a Sound programmer/maker - also a beginner
and everyone who think they can help

why am i looking for you?
very simple actually, if we learn and make things together things can go faster and simpler, and we can help eachother out!

requirements:
- need to speak english a bit, for communication (i also speak french, dutch and a bit of german)
- want to study 2h a week (yes only 2 - since i dont want to pressure anyone)
- preffered, gmt (-5 to +5) time. since its easier to work together then.

what am i offering?
- no money - im sorry im not that well off :D
- the joy of working together
- help , since ill be programming a rough 5-10h (max 20h depends on work) a week, and i have a certificate of teaching (VBA,HTML etc) in highschool, i can explain things
- the fun of creating
- hopefully within 1-2 years a 2D/3D game (depends on our progress)
- ill do all the logistics (setting up mail, wiki etc)
thank you all for reading, and have a nice day!

grtz
Seth!

Hey Seth,

If I were you, I would try to find at least one intermediate (or better) programmer to work with. That way you have a mentor to learn from... otherwise, it's a bit of a "blind leading the blind" situation. I'm not poo-pooing anyone, it's just that having an experienced brain to pick helps!

Also, you probably would find it beneficial to come up with a solid project design. Something simple, but completely defined, so that everyone can understand what is expected of them.

Good luck!

well its a one-eyed leading the blind ;-)
but i get your point,
only problem is, almost no-one seriously i asked... wants to help a beginner, since it consumes time...

also the defined project, is a but hard at the newbie-stage.
biggest thing, someone could do is a text based casino or something.
(my 4th grade -15year old- project for school in VBA :D )

grtz
and ty for the advice though!

Yeah, not many programmers are willing to help beginners for one reason or another, which is unfortunate. I mean, it's one thing to answer a question on a forum... it's something else to have someone there to oversee and teach.

I might be willing to help out. I could help you hammer out a good design for you to start with, at the least... and of course give you guidance.

Note that I'm not one of the "good" programmers on this board! But I have done enough 2D (and 3D) projects to know how to get you going. :)

Most of us already have 2 or 3 projects of our own. :)

Which is probably why most of us have so few finished projects. :P

@Seth - expect a PM from me soon.

Hello seth,

I strongly encourage what your proposing. Of course, its not something new. But after reading what your looking for. I think I follow along these guidelines. I believe I have a few things to offer, including some modeling half-wit skills with 3dsmax and blender. I host a website at MightyRealms that concentrates on Java applets due to the ease of deployment.

Take a look at the website and if theres something you think we can accomplish, let me know.

Heres a video of a game I was working on in blitz3d, which I abandoned due to deployment. Click here for video.

Xyle,

thank you for the offer,
a graphics designer would be very nice, if you want the 'job'?

Seth, do you already have a solid idea for the game or you are developing it yet?

I can help with game design, testing and sometimes programming.

I know VB and PHP well and I can code C++ and Java too.

I think that we need to establish central point to put game ideas, code, members and discussions. Be it a blog, a wiki or a project on SourceForge or other project site.

I need to know what's inside your mind before jumping in. Because I already have my project.
