So i finally made a big step and put my 8BitFunding campaign for Astronaught live. I'm so curious how this will turn out.
Unfortunately the video is not embedded correctly. I hope they can fix that soon.

I'd love if you could spread the word a bit, doin some tweets or show this to your friends. I really appreciate it :D

Keep it up, weezl! Being recognized by the Indie scene like this must give you the tingles.

Yes it does, i feel all fuzzy inside.
But this is just the beginning. I have to make a lot more publicity. But receiving such a great review at this stage is really awesome!

Just tweeted about it. Hope it helps and doesn't drive people away instead. :)

I'm sure my massive number of followers will contribute. Well, 600 isn't really massive but... ;)

I have more followers than that, and I've used Twitter less than half a dozen times... Given that, I'd say that judging someone by the number of Twitter followers one has is dubious, at best. ;)

There is no scientific formula, as a large portion of success pursuing exposure is determined purely by dumb luck. That being the case, don't expend more effort selling your product than you put into crafting your product at this stage. Hype goes away the instant something else demands people's attention, and when that happens, it has a tendency to create a productivity vacuum, so if you notice the hype you've built up begin to wane -- it is rather demoralizing.

Best approach? Allow it to come to you. Don't beg for it.

Exposure is such a tease.

Of course i don't expect there to be a magic formula. What i am asking is do you know some portals that would be worthwhile advertising in.

What you describe as dumb luck is possibly what you mean by the effort of notch for example, or even to a lesser degree. Simply having your game go viral.
Well, this will not happen for the regular indie. If you want people to know your game, you have to do a damn good job getting it around a lot of places until it spreads far enough so people eventually actually come to you, and your blog, and your youtube channel to get the info themselves, and maybe even spread it on their own.

I've got the first steps covered already by having a campaign and a few forums and now an entry on indiedb where i can post news and updates for new people to get interested in it. The more i expose it on other places, the more likely it is to spread on it's own.

I know i shouldn't waste a lot of time doing promotional stuff, but it needs to be done to a certain degree, or i didn't need to start the campaign in the first place.

I realized already that it is too early for reddit. Apparently they expect a somewhat more finished or feature-rich product before they show real interest, so i will try that again in a few weeks.

speaking of which:

Note that it works both ways. There are times where good people/products get a relatively good amount of exposure, yet they never become popular/successful.

It was not my intention to indicate otherwise. I'm suggesting that promotional stuff take a backseat for now. I'm not suggesting you stuff it in the trunk.

Not quite as fast as i would require it. It's still pretty amazing that there are posts about this on several blogs.

Here's a weekly breakdown which i am planning to do while the campaign is running.

Anything i didn't cover which you'd like to know?
