yeah i see what you mean. it would definately make it more interesting. change of pace, entirely different game mechanics. makes things more interesting and diverse.
One thing that is planned though are different game types (lets call em that) like a racing/evading obstacle component and a top down gliding in space thingy (think geometry wars) so it's not only horizontal scrolling action but a bit of diversity.
having a complete awesome platformer in there though would be flippin wicked
the racing part has a good chance of getting added for the next version in late december
