It's real quiet on this part of the forum, so I thought I'd pimp my favorite Java game engine a little. In the spring break I'm hoping to have time to code a small game with a friend of mine, using the engine.
Anyways, on to the eye candy. It's a few mixed pictures from the engine's forum.

Hopefully, if enough engines and tools are out there for java game programming, and it gets faster in certain parts(or people just stop thinking java is slow for everything), and java becomes avaliable on consoles, java would be a great language for game programming!

Go Java!

note: I doubt java will ever get on consoles, sorry!

What do you mean, would be?! It is!
There's a number of commercial and a huge number of indie/shareware/freeware/web games out there that use Java. And Java games isn't restricted to running on the BlueGene supercomputer, they can run on any regular computer just as well as many C++ games can.

Depending on which consoles you're talking about... Almost every modern cellphone has compability for playing Java games.

Sorry, I ment that people would stop thinking that java is a language for just writting applets, which it's not(Im a dedicated java game programming fan)

And by consoles I ment the xbox, ps2, gamecube and the things like that. Are there any commercial games for cell phones not written in java?

Yeah, there are. I think most of the ones not written in Java are written in C/C++ for BREW.

Oh, I didn't know that. But aren't most cell phone games written in java?

And I have to agree the water is amazing., and the land is too(but not as amazing as the water).

And I'll tell you spodi that I like java more than VB, why do people like vb so much?

Yeah, most likely.

I also used to think VB was the end-all-be-all... until I figured out how to use Java. That was pretty much the last time I ever touched VB.

Bang! Howdy is a game currently being developed by a company called Three Rings. It's using jMonkey Engine. Here's some screenshots. Lookin' sweet.

Oh yeah, and the two main developers of jMonkey Engine have been hired to work on jMonkey Engine fulltime... by NCSoft, the company behind City of Heros and several other MMORPGs. The future is indeed looking very good for jMonkey Engine! :yeah

Nah, it isn't that great a computer. I think it's a BlueGene/L... you know it? :lol Just kidding :P
I didn't take those shots, I just stole them from the "User showcase" section of the forum of the engine. :)

Its starting to look promising, I had my fingers in it a year ago and it looked to be a pretty dead project, but since then it seems things has changed a bit.

I was considering Ogre3D for a while, but it looks like JME will be my new playground instead sometime :P

Hello

I am a recruitment consultant and I have a number of contract positions that I am trying to fill where jmonkey engine is the required skill set. I have a number of 5 - 6 month contract positions based either in the Farnborough or Newcastle area. My client is looking for devlopers with strong commercial experience of jmonkey engine and OpenGL so someone from a 3D background in either the gaming or geographical informations systems is desired. This is an excellent opportunity for a developer to work on a cutting edge project for a market leading company. If you are intrested or if you have any friends or colleagues looking for work please send me an email with your CV or call me to discuss the positions further.
