Remember what we defined as a Bad Thing(tm)?

Agreed... that's a bit much.

By the way, I noticed this logo in the BBCode guide on the "Post a reply" page.... I can claim no credit for this other than noticing it:

I kinda like the way it spells out the name... the casual observer might not know what "GPWiki" stands for.

Ah, that's a smaller version of the precursor to the current forum logo. I made that old one myself... witness the extent of my photoshop skillz!

Must've missed that topic... I figured since a lot of times I see text here that is so small it's unreadable, it didn't matter. :\ How is this:

Although, I think it would be reasonable to prescribe Valium to ad banners and rat poison to pop-up ads...

?

Don't worry about it, theraje :) It's not your fault that you didn't know!

We had a rash of "small text" posts a while back and it got to be annoying, so we asked people to stop doing it.

No biggie! I should really just disable the feature :)

I tried to put the whole title in the button, but there's only so much you can squeeze into 88x31 :(

I'm working on some bigger buttons and banners.

[EDIT] Here's a list of 'standard' button and banner sizes:

468 x 60 IMU - (Full Banner)
234 x 60 IMU - (Half Banner)
88 x 31 IMU - (Micro Bar)
120 x 90 IMU - (Button 1)
120 x 60 IMU - (Button 2)
120 x 240 IMU - (Vertical Banner)
125 x 125 IMU - (Square Button)
728 x 90 IMU - (Leaderboard)

No, but "The Game Programming Wiki" dosn't fit very well into a 88x31 pixel button. That's why people using the buttons for linking should add "Visit The Game Programming Wiki at GPWiki.org" or somesuch in the title/alt field of the link. :)

The 'alt' tag isn't for cramming in more text, it should try to convey the same info as the graphic. Never assume it will be seen.

(anal html mode off)

Shouldn't GPWiki be under "Game Development: Dev" instead of "GameDev .Net: Alius"?

Yeah, I've seen so many abuses of HTML in gathering these buttons, that to think about them all would either cause me to explode or be crippled for life. :rofl Many people put stuff in the alt tag that should go in the title tag. Nobody ever sees the alt tag (usually) !

Yeah I guess that's a good idea. It gets more notice at the top, but it's probably better suited to that category. I'm thinking about re-thinking the categories, too 8)

The problem is that IE uses the <tt>alt</tt> attribute to display tooltips for images instead of using <tt>title</tt>, which would be much more appropriate. Because of this, <tt>alt</tt> gets used for things it shouldn't be used for.

Yes, that's also why I wrote exactly the same description in both the "title" and "alt" field, as you can see here: http://gpwiki.org/index.php/GPWiki_Link_Buttons. That way the same description is displayed on mouse-over on both IE and FF.
