If you're going to be language specific, you might as well include forums dedicated to graphics and so forth.
That's all I have to say. :)

We do. It's called "Game Media." ;)

People usually don't consider art assets as "game media" (although it works, I am too familiar with it meaning news in the games industry). I was talking about graphics programming anyway.

Hi Pieman,

Do you mean something like OpenGL or DirectX subforums? (should that be subfora?)

Those are pretty langauge unspecific, so i guess it wouldn't hurt. Any code interfacing that api should be readable by most coders anyways, so it wouldn't be too much of an obstacle either.

I'm maxed out this week. I'll look at it again soon.

OK, I have some time now. Lets do this as an RFC, post opinions for or against. I'll action the result after a week.

Personally, I like the idea. I'm trying to get my head around 'proper' OpenGL after years of putting everything between glBegin/glEnd. However, I'm not sure if we have the experts in the regular crowd to actually answer questions that people may post.

That's ok, i'm pro.

Well, i know opengl fairly good, and can probably help with most basic questions.
DirectX although i have no clue of.

Loved the GLSL sandbox you tweeted BTW.

Yay! I'm happy for this chance! :)

By the way, I am moderately experienced with both OpenGL and Direct3D 9. 'Maybe a little more experienced than Codehead with OpenGL -- I don't know -- but I still haven't become completely experienced with either of them (unfortunately). I guess I've gone pretty far, but I haven't had the time to experiment with writing shaders yet. That's on my urgent to-do list, but I have a lot of other things I'm prioritizing first.

OK, A couple of positive votes and none against. We have two new sub forums! Democracy in action.

I'm not sure if they belong in Game Programming or Game Development. Maybe they should be rolled up into subforums of 'Graphics APIs'. Any thoughts?

I'm also thinking that DirectX won't get much traffic. However, we'll monitor and review in a couple of months.

I'd leave it in the game programming, since it's strictly programming related :P

Thank you! :)

Personally, I don't have any questions at the moment, so I won't be the first one busy using these forums... but I'm sure I will be quite busy messing with very particular graphics-programming issues in the coming months -- it's due to my "programming schedule," because I know I have the visual-end of my current project to complete after I finish the core program. Many questions and much exciting discussion ado (well, hopefully I can realize my solutions prior).

Yes it will, atleast from me. ;)

I agree with weezl on their placement.

I hear that when you get serious with graphics programming, DirectX becomes a luxury compared to OpenGL (which is said to be annoying for serious/high-end graphics programming purposes). A lot of it is said to be due to the driver platform-unpredictability/unreliability associated with OpenGL and also the shader scheme that OpenGL goes by (I hear there's no #include in GLSL etc). I hear a lot of things, including dead people. :ego
