I was thinking of restructuring the index site. I think it is a bit cluttered with information and i think people could benefit from a cleaner layout.

I tend to get myself confused and need to click around a bit until i finally arrive at the page i want to get to :p

What i want to know before i get my hands on this if there's a statistics kind of, to see how often a page has been accessed to get an idea what people are actually looking for.

Which index? The "landing page" when you go to gpwiki.org? Or the index page for the Wiki portion of the site itself?

The Wiki produces stats: http://content.gpwiki.org/index.php/Spe ... pularPages
They're not broken down by time though.

I've recently added PCMechanic20's page and user stats to the blurb on the index page.

I'm working on upgrading the forum and wiki software at the moment. I'm trying to do a parallel install rather than the usual in place upgrade. It's giving me a few problems, but once that's done I'll be free to look at tweaking layouts.

First draft i made for the main page.
I tried using different tables for the left and right column, but it looks odd, i'll merge them again probably so they align.

I changed the yellow and border colors to fit the blue'ish theme of the forums and the wiki. I thought it was kind of distracting.

What i did for now is checking each pages click count. Some have ridiculously low clicks (4000 result in about one click per day, but many of them are even below that).
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12237727/GPWikiMainpageClickCount.txt

Special attention to "Community - How you can help", this is not 123k, just 123. I renamed it to Contribute for now. Any better ideas?
The People site seems fairly useless. It lacks a lot of content, and wikipedia is a better resource for that. I'd suggest getting rid of it.
Most of the peoples articles are wikipedia entries anyways, the few that exist in our wiki are mostly 2 liners.

I removed
* Comunity - Image of the day
* Community forums cell entirely

If we can use the banner from the homepage in the wiki, those will be redundant anyways.

What i rearranged
* Split entries for language/library/language agnostic tutorials in the gameprogramming cell
* Renamed "Tools" to "Third party tools and libraries" and moved Libraries and Engines to it, so the focus of the gameprogramming cell is entirely on programming

I will give it some more thought in the next couple days and advance this draft
Lemme know what you think

ONE think that would make the experience at the forum better, a new "Latest Posts" mechanism, the current one makes me crazy, only 7 of the latest post are visible. A button showing the previous posts would be great. The post we were talking about the upgrade of the wiki forum for example, I didn't found it, then I'm posting here. ;)

The 'Latest Forum Posts' title is also a link. It takes you to an unread posts page on the forum. Is that what you are looking for? If not we can look at the way the front page works. The 7 posts thing was just to size the boxes in a reasonable way. Perhaps we could add a button to expand each box and list more content.
