Bit late on this, but thought it was worth posting up. The next iteration of the Unreal Engine has been released. ... l-engine-4

The engine supports a wide range of platforms, but one of the most interesting features is the new licencing model. Access to the source code costs just $19.99 a month. If your project is successful, Epic will get 5% of the gross revenue. This means that the barrier to entry is significantly reduced, allowing small teams and indie devs to use UE4 without putting big chunks of cash up front.

This seems like a good thing to me.

This is indeed good news. Interestingly crytek released with a similar proposal, but far less polish and community focus at this point. havent looked into crytek that much but ue4, despite lacking a bunch of stuff, still looks pretty valid.

Seems like unity was too much of a threat :rolleyes
