Ah yes, but with a PC you have a choice of content provider. A Steam powered console would have a walled garden like the Kindle Fire or an iProduct.

That doesn't make sense given the "lack of innovation" part of the reasoning. We have consoles with that.

'Innovation' and 'Groundbreaking' are words for customers. 'New revenue stream' and 'Captive market' are the words that the management are hearing.

I understand exactly what they mean by a void. Yeah... almost every identifiable hardware producer seems (at least somewhat) harmfully isolated from the software land. I'm glad they've began this initiative. Also, I don't think Valve is that big, but I also bet a lot of people overestimate the costs of hardware manufacturing.
