Microsoft will be taking an active role in the future of WebGL after joining the Khronos steering group.

This is a surprising move, but I don't think DirectX is due to die anytime soon. It might even be part of the Embrace, Extend, Extinguish process. :O

I hope they don't try something ill mannered.
I sort of doubt MS having the foresight to embrace OpenGL at this point, but you never know. If they indeed start to embrace it there'll be lots of benefit for everyone i suppose!

Wow, that's pretty surprising news!

I don't think there's anything to worry about. MS seem to be embracing open standards, with the triple E approach being a thing of the past. Hopefully some good things come from this :)
