Excuse the poorly written meme. It should read: "I went outside once. The graphics were amazing, but the gamplay and storyline was terrible." ;)

So um, I think the "states-per-second" of our universe is approximately 1.855 x 10^43: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=se ... lanck+time
Though such a server is quite fast, unfortunately the clients only run at 60-70 FPS. By the way, I believe it is physically possible to build a parallel computer which yields such power (eh, perhaps for the state of a few integers :rofl), but it would be very big and quite computationally limited. :P

I was reading somewhere a few weeks back about an experiment to prove that the universe wasn't a simulation.

Seemed a little paranoid to me. :geek

Sounds stupid. What would it be simulating otherwise? Another universe? :rolleyes
Just for the heck of it, I'll say our universe is simulation. Yep. Now what? Doesn't that mean it must be simulating something else? And because it is, because I said so... so what anyway? :P

I dislike people who even take the time to think about matters such as that with as little knowledge as they have e.g. "The Singularity." The dumbwit who conceived of that folklore on quite a very arbitrary basis doesn't seem to understand general artificial intelligence to any extent great enough to make claims or judgments regarding it, if not enough to rationally believe his s***. "The Singularity" definitely can not be considered a prediction, inevitable concequence or anything serious. It's obviously just... I mean read the name: "The Singularity"

That's pretty great, eh. Definitely not a concept merely designed to replace the "Futurist: Flying Cars in 20 years!" theme. :thumbs

Found it: http://www.technologyreview.com/view/42 ... imulation/

Not sure what they were looking for, too many big words in there. :spin

The singularity is a scenario of a possible outcome if certain discoveries are made, and if they turn out to prove current theories true. It is no prediction in a sense that it is inevitable, but there is a likeliness for it to ocurr.

If you want to know more about the subject you should read Radical Evolution by Joel Garreau. One of the few books on that matter i've read but a pretty good and convincing one.

The singularity

You mean that thing at the beginning of the big bang? Or the things at the center of black holes? Or maybe a grand non-plurality? Or maybe my relational circumstance? :(

If you're simulating the universe, you don't have to do it in realtime. Your simulated universe could tick slower than 1.855 x 10^43 and it shouldn't affect the simulation. Then again, you can probably make a bunch of simplifying assumptions and use some LOD algorithm to swap in detail to any part of the universe which is closely inspected by your simulated dudes. No point in simulating the sound of a tree falling in a forest if there's no one there to hear it :)

It's not about simulation, it's about computation i.e. states-per-second of our universe, not physical nature of our universe!

*Wasn't logged in for some reason.

@Codehead
That comic is hilarious! I've had similar discussions (though dialog) that developed when I was teasing my friend for building a CPU simulation in a Minecraft mod. It's very fun to make jokes about horrendously-possible computatational machine implementations.
