Apparently the firewall software I'd been using since I went to Windows 7 is no longer maintained, and Service Pack 1 for Win7 breaks something with it. Now using a different firewall software, and now I seem to be downloading fine.

Computers. What a pain.

FWIW, I use Comodos Internet Security. Free a/v and firewall, doesn't get in the way and has kept me clean and malware free for 4 years.

Windows 7 actually has decent security, I don't see any reason to run separate firewall software. AV is definitely still relevant.
