Coming out on Tuesday. I actually wasn't going to buy it, but after I got into the beta I got hooked. Looking forward to see what epic cinematics Blizzard has cooked up this time :)

Any other gpwikians planning on partaking in this next instalment of Diablo?

I've had it pre-ordered since they started letting women vote in America!

(Not really. Never was a fan of the Diablo series. Nice idea, but the clickfest game play was a bit too bland for me. Besides, the way things have been going lately, I got better things to do than play video games -- shock!! :))

I've managed to miss this one. My gaming is very limited these days. I did manage to have a short blast on Gears3 last night, but that's a rare pleasure.

I loved the first Diablo game, I remember downloading the demo (60Mb) on a 33k dial-up modem. |I May have to take a look later once the initial fuss dies down.

I've always loved the Diablo games, il be snagging d3 on tuesday. Yeah they can be clickfests, but Blizzard has stated that Diablo 3 will be playable with an xbox controller..which I have. I'm looking forward to trying that out - sitting on my couch, playing d3 on the big screen ;)

For the time being, I've got a few games to tide me over. Mount+Blade Warband, Blacklight Retribution(f2p), ME3, Legend of Grimrock.

I tried logging into the beta again today to show a friend of mine but it seems they've taken it offline.

I'm just sad they didn't release this when I was still in high school, or at least university. How will I ever get a level 99 Wizard with only playing on weekends? Gonna have to do caffeine-fuelled POWER LEVELLING! :)

You're totally sorted for the long wait on Monday :lol

Pah -- you'd be better off writing an auto-play bot to grind your character for you. Or maybe wait until someone else writes one and use that.

At least then you get all the reward and have time to do something constructive with your life. ;) :ego

Hmm.. Just realized something. Mass Effect 3 literally put my project on hold for a month. That was 2 playthroughs and a fairly obscene amount of multiplayer. Given Diablo's replay value, it could be even worse this time. ruh roh.

Collector's Edition came in on the 15th. Managed to avoid the login errors enough to play about 30 minutes. :(

The login problems didn't affect me at all... because my ISP decided to drop my connection for the last few days. Aaarrgh! >:(

I did initially think that Blizzard may have set up the server infrastructure to suit their expectation of normal levels of traffic and decided to take the hit on the first few days rather than waste money on kit that would be redundant after a week. However, chances are that the servers aren't piled up in a heap in a Blizzard back room. They'll be outsourced to a datacentre and probably virtualised.
Even basic consumer VPS offerings have elastic capabilities and can be quickly and easily scaled up to meet short term surges in traffic and private clouds have bursting options to deal with peaks in demand. Unless the datacenter had some sort of failure or had it's entire bandwidth swamped, this simply shouldn't have happened.

I think the basic core concept remains unchanged: hugely anticipated game, hugely insufficient server capacity.

That being said, the whole "Must be connected to battle.net to play" thing didn't help. It's a pointless attempt at control that has cost them dearly at Metacritic. (Though, even metacritic scores aren't reliable as alot of the scores are "rage-post-scores")

Give us dedicated servers. Yay, server load problem solved.

The beta actually got my hopes up. A lot of solutions they had, for the skilltree and item sharing etc seemed very nice. Now after playing at some friends over the weekend made me realise some things:

The plot is very cheesy. I won't elaborate for spoiling purposes :P
The narration is very b-movie like. Nothing of the epicness d2 had.
The characters are superficial and not very convincing in their roles.
Many of the animations are kinda bad. Not terrible, but they could be better. Feels like wc3 in that sense.
And the server system.. ugh.. 6hours downtime 3-9pm when we only had this weekend to play. This was a major let down. Blizzard, what have you done. I can understand their reasonings, but DON'T SCREW YOUR CUSTOMERS PLEASE :(

The game's fun nontheless, it's just i had expected more and i now kinda regret getting it at full price :| although blizzard is not exactly known for discounts either.
