I want you opinions about blogging.
Not blogging as a whole, but me blogging(woah, the word is very ugly).
I know there are plenty of blogs in the big wide world of the internet,
my thought: I am very new to game programming.
I encounter beginner problems, which usually get solved.
My coding stlye changes, my games become more complex.
It would be a blog from a beginner, for other beginners,
with code samples, problems and their solutions,
Another intention is, that I think, I made the first gap(from console c++ to SDL graphics).
Maybe others will be motivated by such a "story".

I am not very familiar with the whole game coding scene.
Do you think, it could be a blog other people want to read or wouldn't it be worth the effort?

Discuss :)

The way I feel about blogging is that if you feel a need to do so -- do it. Otherwise, don't bother.

I've fiddled with blogs on numerous occasions, and find them more or less useless to achieving my goals. On the other hand, it does give one a more personal glimpse into your work. If I had ever been a consistent blogger, people would have a much better idea about the diversity of my skills/abilities, which is a double-edged sword (since while I'm capable of a lot of stuff, one thing I am not very good at is sticking with something specific until I finish it).

That said, I don't feel any real need for a black soapbox (i.e. a soapbox that is black-boxed, and no real interaction occurs). I am more a conversational type, than a "here's what I think, deal with it, end of story" type.

After all, information changes *very* rapidly. I feel the best way to learn something is to be in the trenches -- not atop an ivory tower talking downward.

Just my opinion. :)

Your webpage/blog/etc would take a while to get some traffic. Do read about SEO, if you want to attract traffic.

I occasionally blog, to share my novice achievements & showcase projects. And hope when I become an adept developer it would attract readers (potential clients) & etc.

I blog with my FreeRCT project (see signature) since I started 6 months ago. It's mostly a 'commercial' for the game, people following the project get a bit of news every now and then.
It was not my idea, but I am giving it a try. Who knows.

I consider blogging mostly a case of 'look me doing great stuff', which is not related to actual quality at all.

If you want to blog, I would forget about the readers. Do it for a self-serving reason, otherwise it'll become a chore. A friend of mine started a blog about his animation and drawing stuff to chronicle his development as an artist. After 3 years, he still gets hardly any traffic, but without doing any form of promotion, it's steadily built up to roughly 20 views a day. But if 20 random people reading your stuff doesn't sound good, then 20,000 is not going to feel any better.

Thank you for your opinions.
I think I was convinced not to blog.
Probably start one when my first Indie-game is in beta and I am looking for
sponsors(means, I will wait some more years with blogging xD).

Alberth, I have been on you blog once! I guess I clicked you sig already^^.

IGTHORN: 20readers a day is quite good I think. I can't imagine a website,
visited by 20k / day, I made up myself*g*

The good thing: If I don't blog, I don't have to blog. I really dislike the web
with its html, css ... baeh.

Thanks again for your answeres, really helped me to decide :)
