So I'm trying to figure out whether the Interwebs have any sort of tutorials geared toward Android that aren't strictly geared toward coding...

I am looking for "essentials" -- basic usage. I've read that Android is kind of screwy about things (mostly memory issues, like software remaining in memory indefinitely, even after being closed... and pre-loaded apps from device manufacturers that cannot be removed by normal means), so I want to know how to whip it into shape.

I Googled for "Android tutorials," and they were all related to development. I tried "Android beginner tutorials", and tried a few sites (one called "Android Community" which was just a news site... and "Hello Android" which is just a forum in which spam-bots converse among themselves), but have had no luck in finding any info on this stuff.

In other words, all I know is there is bad stuff, and that the bad stuff can be fixed... but I have no clue as to *how* that stuff can be fixed, or even how to go about finding out how that stuff can be fixed.

Got links?

Maybe I am totally wrong now, but afair there are several DevKits, depending on the Handytype, or?
I thought about trying to write an app too(just for fun), but I don't even have a Handy so...xD

If you will find good tutorials, especially basics, I would appreciate you for posting them :)

There are development kits for each version of Android. Problem is that many manufacturers of Android devices restrict app sources (forcing you to choose from and buy apps from their own, proprietary store app), and the only way to fix it in some cases is rooting some custom firmware onto it. But, in the end, that just means that one would need to submit their app not only to the standard Android Market/Google Play stores -- but also other store apps (such as the Amazon App Store for Kindle Fire).

XDA Devs is pretty good for ROMs and general handset/OS hacking. Is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

That looks like it will be a good resource for asking specific questions... but I really don't know what questions to ask, honestly. Best I can come up with is one of those annoying general n00b posts that invariable bring out the "RTFM" cannons.

Is there really no guide for Android usage that doesn't involve software development and/or loading custom firmware?
