Hah yes, but if he'd bruteforce the raycasting like i did his game would run at <1fps i'd assume. Maybe if he'd use webgl :p

Nyuk. :)

As much as I'm digging HTML5, I don't think WebGL is a particularly well-developed aspect of the standard. Too many potential security and graphics-driver issues currently.

In any case, this looks awesome, weezl! :D

Thanks for all your feedback \o/
This is really fun working on it when i see people actually enjoying it :D

Once WebGL is matured it can prove to do some nice stuff in the interwebz. And i don't think of games only. Cool interactive 3d webpages or funnies like that.

Anyways, todays progress. I present to you: Multiple lights with entity-cast shadows.

Tomorrow i'll build a flashlight for the little guy so he can walk around in dark corridors. I'll add Room transitions so the doors will actually have a purpose, refine some of the editor features so it is friendlier to use, build a new map, refine some bugs and hopefull there's a new build ready by monday.

You're the second person that thinks that this terminal is a zombie.. i wonder how... :P

But it certainly is a good reason to redraw the tile :P

i was thinking about a side scrolling shooter, but then i changed my mind and decided to make an RPG. Ive started drawing the tileset, but it sucks too much to show yet.

Here's todays progress

First off a little teaser image :D

Image

Okay, so today i did.. what did i again? I'm so confused, it feels like i've been coding 4 days straight, and i most likely did.
I fixed the player physics. They're not perfect, but far better than before. You're not sliding up stairs anymore. Ladders work better.
I implemented a full fledged lighting management. Depending on the radius of the light i can sport up to 16 simultaneously, which should be enough.
These are bruteforced raycasted lights, which i think i have optimized as far as i can without doing something drastic like rendering them in a lower resolution. Although this is actually something i will try at some point since it will boost the performance by a magnitude and might also look nice when pixelated.
Else i did a bunch of bugfixing and some editor features, so modifying the level is not as tedious as one tile per click as it was before ;)

I think that sums it up pretty nice.

Finally, theres this weeks build, as promised, and i'm kinda glad i got everything down like i planned (except doors still :P)
Download

Note: NVidia card users may receive an error about framebuffers not being setup correctly. The game should work fine anyways. If not, lemme know whats wrong :)

Be careful there, weezl -- keep this up, and you may end up having to hire bodyguards to keep the raving fanbois away! (Though I imagine the fangirls might be handled differently to some degree. ;))

Looks awesome.

I can't do the same project as the featured image twice in a row. :P

Then just surreptitiously pull the ol' "switch-a-roo" trick. No one will notice.

...

OK, I'm pretty sure it's more like no one will not notice... :rolleyes

Is it just me, or is anyone else suffering from CLS (Chopped Liver Syndrome) after that remark?

:P

Two new area teaser images i've been working on.

Image

I tried to use a friendly and noble design instead of a bland panel based room interior for the residential area. The gold and wood appearance should imply luxury while the blue is for freedom (the sky, as opposed to be living in a box of steel).

Image

I got a bit of interesting feedback on this one. Ranging from lovely to chilled out or 'looks like someone didn't control his bladder' (probably the guy in the corner).
It's kinda difficult to draw lab equipment with a bright wallcolor, so the flasks are kind of invisible here, gotta find a way to have them pop out some more.
But yes, the brown is likely a bit too intense, i will try to tone it down some so it isn't that apparent.

Working on it ;)

I'm currently trying to tackle what is likely the most complex algorithm I've ever written. It's gonna be sexy once I get it going, but for now.. no screenies. Sorry hehe
I hope to have something presentable before too much longer. Once I do, I'l try to get some game media together.

Careful -- if my experience is any indicator, this sort of thing usually indicates "the beginning of the end" -- and not in a good way. :P

As Brian Kerrighan puts it: Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Now thank me for the vote of confidence. ;) :lol

Drew this tonite while listening to lovecraft :D Drawing + audiobook is so good. Too bad my other hobbies don't work while listening to stories.

The darkness of that thing is deliberate. I try to keep as much to the imagination of the viewer as possible. I feel that the hightlight's may even be too bright.
What i'm not happy with is the pose. The arms are twisted in strange ways, and the spine is rather stiff or straight.
I think the legs/feet and head/torso parts are fine though.

His legs might look short, but are the actual size of an average human. Figuring the total size from that would suggest a height of around 3.5m, armlength around 2m.

I made a follow up on that but i didn't like it as much.
The physique is too average and i couldn't bring across the whole intention of the picture. It just looks like a rotten corpse hanging.

Image

Sweet dreams :D
