Hi guys. just discovered this forum a few weeks ago, and it's a great resource--I'll def be visiting here daily! Just wanted to recommend my two recent XNA books. I know, shameless plug, but I won't be just disappearing after posting this, and the WP7 board here is kind of spartan so far...

So, the first one is called XNA Game Studio 4.0 for Xbox 360 Developers. Totally misunderstood book, but I'm hoping it will catch on in time. This book goes all into the services specific to the 360, with nary a mention of Windows (except that Windows and 360 can be used for the networked lan game in the last chapter). This will show how to load your own avatar and render it, for example.

Next, I recently finished Teach Yourself Windows Phone 7 Game Programming in 24 Hours. Also an XNA book that dabbles a bit in Silverlight for good measure. Lots of good info on WP7, with a TON of code related to a fairly robust animation system that kind of took off on it's own at a certain point. I don't know where it all came from, as I've never written animation code that crazy before, but it's pretty useful.

I'll try not to talk about my own stuff here too much, since my own forum is for that, just wanted to recommend these two given that there have been a lot of XNA books published in the past that are somewhat out of date today. If you want to know more, there are screens and videos on my FB page.

Welcome aboard, Jonathan! Glad you plan to stick around. :)

I have your advanced 2D game programming book, and I remember waiting for your book on VB6 and DirectX with rather bated breath...

Jim and I get along here well. Or at least we haven't killed each other yet. :lol :D

Thanks, theraje. I took that engine a long ways for it being built from scratch, with a lot of gameplay features and tools, but when I left UAT and did not have a high-pressure engine class to teach, I relaxed a bit and now haven't had a big project to drive it any further. I was thinking of a Star Trek game last fall (indie/freeware of course). And I've ALWAYS wanted to make a Battletech game. Big fan of FASA. As a learning experience, it's good to work on stuff like that, but would it be better to use a fully developed engine instead and just get cracking on gameplay? That's a topic for another thread...
