I just recently bought a first edition copy ( 1994 ed ) with no cd. I am in the process of converting the code to SDL. However I dont have the full source and would like to get it. I have searched all over the net and have even gone to Sam's Publishing ( apparently they have stopped supporting the book ).
Most of my searching turns up Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus, which I dont want. Anybody know of an obsure site that may have it?

I think I tossed that out a few years ago. I figured with things like OpenGL and internets, I don't need to keep a book on how to do 7-bit 320x200 hacks. Especially with that ugly-ass cover. It's highly unlikely that I still have the disc, but...

I am mainly doing it to help me understand Doom's raycasting engine a little better. The book written fairly well with a primitive raycaster, but LaMothe doesnt show all of his code in the book, especially the ending raycaster.

If I stumble upon it I'll throw it at you, but don't get your hopes up.

Heh, I got rid of that book a couple of years ago, donating it to my local library. :)

On a side note, Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus is now a free wiki book. That I did not know.

I happen to have this source code if you are still looking for it, which is pretty unlikely.

I had the book and CD and I damaged the CD. I am in need of CD and its contents, particularly the source code and media files like images. Were you able to get the CD or its contents?

Thanks

Amir

You might could ask Andre LaMothe (the author/editor of the "Game Programming Gurus" series) over on his books forum. http://www.xgamestation.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=29

Andre's a nice guy, and is the "owner" of the series, so if there's any chance for finding the CD contents, he's your best shot.

I actually have one of his older books, "Microsoft Visual Basic Game Programming with DirectX".. and honestly, I was dissapointed with it. I found he did alot of showing and not alot of explaining.

"..and in this chapter, we'l cover how to do animated sprites. Heres the code. [code block] Great, now that we know how to do animated sprites, let's move on to collision.."

I've used a couple basic concepts from the book, but for the most part (looking back on it now, especially) it was crap IMO. (also not to mention that a considerable portion of his code had errors/wouldn't compile.. etc)

Just my 0.02

That book was by Jonathan Harbour, IIRC. The "Game Programming Gurus" books were (mostly) written by Andre LaMothe (although the series from which the MSVBGPwDX book was pulled was directed by LaMothe at the time).

Hi,

I have ordered the book/CD and I am willing to share my CD. I will appreciate if somebody can share my cost with me. I can provide the material on the CD or an ISO image from my FTP server, or mail you the copy of the CD.

Guys, I appreciate that you are just trying to help each other out, but the book and material on the CD are covered by copyright.

GPWiki's policy on piracy and distribution of copyright material is clear and further discussion of the subject will be deleted without notice.

If the CD is not copyrighted, let me know and I'll unlock the topic and get back in my box.

It seems that the CD contents are not covered by the book copyright, plus Khanamir has posted the same request on Andre's forum. So I'll open this thread up again.

/Gets back in box.
