Doesn't matter what format. It can be midi, mod, xm, and so on.

When I am trying to make a game, I'm typically good at programming, and sound FX but music that seems to be the road block for me to make any successful game.

And to tell you this, I don't wanna spend multiple hours on trying to learn how to compose music.

You can get creative commons licensed stuff from a few places:

http://www.jamendo.com/en/
http://ccmixter.org/
http://creativecommons.org/audio/

Should get you started. There are a few different CC licenses and some don't allow commercial use, but many do.

Speaking of royalty free you should consider ogg instead of mp3 because decoding mp3's does incur a royalty.

I doubt you can buy those types of cds in normal stores, whats wrong with downloading them?

Unless the library you use (and pay for) already has paid such fees I suppose? :)

I looked at http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/ a while back. They seemed to have some pretty good audio clips.

They used to sell them (usually in the bargain racks at Radio Shack and the like), not sure if that's still the case with everyone just downloading everything. Of course, those royalty-free music CDs are generally well below par, to put it nicely. You're better off downloading what you want rather than buying a CD with a bunch of crap on it.

I write music and license some of it as royalty free music it online with others at http://www.whitebeetle.com. I think there is a good choice on this site and some of it is less mainstream so you can find more 'off the wall" stuff.

Yeah, ok, it was a bad joke... still, the topic title was asking for "Royal free music" and not royalty free music... :P

You could always check out www.newgrounds.com audio portal...I believe it's free to use in almost any project.

Here are some great options for Royalty free music with simple licensing. Disclosure: I work for this company, but I really do believe this is a great, affordable option:

I'd love to hear your feedback!
