Hello.
Previously, I used Photoshop to create art for games. By manually saving the alpha channel in the program and then saving the picture in the .TGA format, I could use the alpha channel in my game (Gradient alpha, like different parts of the picture has different values of alpha). However; I recently moved to Vista and decided to try Paint.Net. The problem is when I´m trying to save the pictures with an alpha channel. Paint.NET asks "Compressed: Yes, 24 bit: No, 32 bit: Yes". When I reopen the picture in Paint.NET, I can still see and use the alpha channel in the program. However; when I load the picture into the game, the transparent background is just white. What should I do?

Ask the people who created it?

What are using to load it in the game?
What other options did photoshop give you?
Can you load .TGA you created in photoshop with Paint.NET?
Does it still have the alpha channel?

I am guessing Paint.NET isn't saving the particular format/version of alpha the game needs. Also, I would recommend you use .PNG instead of .TGA

As Struan said, a more efficient file format would be PNG. It boasts the smallest file sizes for lossless images. Although I'm assuming there may be some other reason you are using TGA.

But if I'm not mistaken, PNG has an alpha channel and I don't think TGA does..

Yeah, it does have alpha - 8 bit alpha, 24 bit RGB. You can use RLE on TGA, but RLE sucks in comparison to Deflate (though much faster).

The TGA alpha-channel problem is something that can be fixed by downloading the app found here:

I have used it numerous times, and it is a very useful conversion tool. Hope it helps. :)
