Sometimes you want a little evil in your characters :)

I don't think i've seen any drawn characters in iso games since ultima 6. Pagan, crusader, little big adventure, fallout, diablo - all pre-rendered.
Movement is important though - a sometimes 3d animators seem to forget to put the 'character' into the character. Pre-rendered can also look poor at very low res (where details kind of blur together) and when not enough effort has gone into the original model - those details do count.
