For me, in no particular order:

- Age of Empires II (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tri_N8MpY0I)
- Age of Mythology (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMkwUeWqma0)
- The Original Halo Trilogy (especially Halo:CE)
- The Unreal games (including Unreal Tournament etc.)
- Heroes of Might and Magic II and III
- Dungeon Siege (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ysisxLSfsg)

:D

My composing friend really likes the music from Journey and Vessel. Have you ever heard those? They are pretty good, but I've never played the actual games for myself.

Yes for the original Halo theme, Battlefield theme and Age of Empires II ! :)

C&C, and AC2 are good too. I'm also very familiar with the FFVII One Winged Angel song. Skyrim's theme is decent. I don't even know what Soldat is, though. *now listening*

Here's a kickass track from Halo:CE which I don't think very many people are familiar with:

I love pretty much anything by Alexander -siren- Brandon. He was involved in the Unreal, UT and Deus Ex soundtracks, which are in my opinion still the best soundtracks in every game ever made.
Also Yasinori Mitsudas work in Chronotrigger, ChronoCross and Xenogears is phenomenal.
The original Diablo soundtrack is rather wicked aswell :D

Unreal Tournament had some great tracker tunes from the demoscene. I'd heard many of them before, but it was a nice surprise when they popped up in the game.

The original Carmageddon sound track was pretty good. Fear Factory, streamed straight off the CD. The game disc even played in a regular CD player.

Hell March from C&C:Red Alert is my all time favourite though.

The nostalgia... it's so strong!

Also enjoyed the music in The Guild 1.

Cave Story has good music in-game but I don't really enjoying listening to the soundtrack, feels like the tracks don't fit together well. The theme song is awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlYHQDsA13U

http://www.gog.com/gamecard/the_guild_gold_edition $9 is maybe a bit steep for such an old game, but if you dig sim style games it may be worth it.

The Guild seems to be a pretty unknown game. It's sim/rpg game where you play a dude in the 1400's, building up your dynasty and your business, competing against the other dynasties. It was pretty deep in the various ways you could approach the challenges - a wide variety of professions to choose from and interesting ways to level up and leverage your stat points. For instance, you had a stat called Rhetoric, which was your ability to articulate. You could use this to lampoon your enemies, gain political power and also have an easier time getting married. Your guy also eventually dies and control passes to one of your children, so if you have the money you can train your kids up while you're alive so that you get a head start when you pop off :)
