Way too electronicy for my taste. I'm thinking a darker theme is more what we should be trying for overall. I bookmarked a site at home that has a lot of tracks that I liked for various gameplay moments (combat, exploration, etc). I'll post it in a half-hour or so.

that's not dark enough? :o
lol

It's not dark at all. It's almost the opposite.

Go here - http://www.freeplaymusic.com/

And do a search for the following:

above and beyond
cracking up
dark nightmare
dim horizon
evil deed
first round knockout
personal demons
sand storms
urgent emergency

that's the kind of style I'm thinking.

so basically you want some rather sub-par industrial music.

www.soundclick.com has also lot of independent musicians. Sometimes asking is enough to be able to use it in a game :) (Just like I did with YALG)

Style, not those exact songs necessarily, although some weren't bad. You come up with something dark, moody, eerie (with a kick for combat) I'll drop it in. :)

Can't be *too* much of an old guy thing, 'cause I thought it was all fantastic and it seems to fit really well with the games theme.

Apocalypse == Metal. :P

Lars, I deleted your last post as it caused phpBB to hang.
Please try again (Did you post a URL?).

would these tunes work. (they are not finished but it should provide you enough ideas about how I make dark tunes)

http://web.comhem.se/~u22205900/48_hour_day.mp3 what can I say.. distortion :)
http://web.comhem.se/~u22205900/The_experiment.mp3 this tune is perhaps not so dark but quite aggressive
http://web.comhem.se/~u22205900/gpwiki2.mp3 A pretty slow tune, but with some aggressive sound

yeah I noticed that something wrong happened when I first posted, don't know what was wrong though :(

how about this (short loop, I'll expand if it's more to your taste)?

I find it amusing how excessive distortion/compression flattens out the db meters.

I like industrial music, it's just that I found the stuff on that site to be exceptionally bad. You should check out some Front Line Assembly for example.

Pretty nice. Fits the theme I'd like to see well.

http://web.comhem.se/~u22205900/The_experiment.mp3 this tune is perhaps not so dark but quite aggressive

Not sure about this. It felt like there was too much going on and was a bit too electronicy (?) for my taste.

http://web.comhem.se/~u22205900/gpwiki2.mp3 A pretty slow tune, but with some aggressive sound

Pretty nice as well. It didn't seem to be cut to repeat though, which we'd need.

And makes it sound bad IMO. Maybe if it were lower. Maybe it's just me, but I don't care for the high sounding stuff, especially if we're going for dark and moody.

May I wonder why you guys are busy with this, while there is barely anything to play? :P.

I was looking for a tune to play at the main menu to get the audio engine up and running and started rummaging through tunes. :)

Okay... I've learned my lesson with my flash games about not having too much priorities and doing what is fun. Of course you guys do not have deadlines though :).
