Btw, is there a way to have wiki articles to automatically include a link for discussions at the bottom that would automatically create a thread on the forums, or if it exists, link to it (maybe in a specific wiki-discussion subforum)? It might spark some more activity in here :D

That's what the 'Talk' page is for, although I don't really like using them.

It's a good idea, people now have to have a forum account to edit the wiki, so there's no problem there. We might be able to knock something together that auto creates/selects a thread

Thats the point. It makes no sense having two different locations to talk about the content. It works in a regular wiki perhaps, but in our case i think people should be referred to the forums instead. Otherwise the discussion will spread over month, and noone will benefit from it.

I didn't even think of this, but it definitely helps in that regard :D

Some feedback i just received:

If you click register in the wiki, it tells you registrations are disabled. It should probably redirect to the forums registration page.

Spooky, I was looking at that earlier. The extension has removed the login and registration pages from the Wiki, so it's not a simple case of publishing a message.

There is a solution on the talk page for the extension, will get something sorted.

Had to do some hacking of the SSO plugin, but now there's a redirect from Special:SignUp, Special:LogIn and Special:LogOut to a helpful page explaining how the single sign on works.

One week left on my project, then I should be able to get stuck in again.

I did manage to do some work on the Featured Image code over the weekend, not finished yet though.

Hi,

I'm new to the site, but the first thing I experienced as negative is that the forum is much too wide. Not only do I constantly have a vertical scrollbar and I don't see everything, but having a layout too wide makes reading texts a pain. There shouldn't be too many words on one line.

Regards,
ratking

Hi RatKing, sorry you had registration issues. I manually activated your account, will take a look in the logs over the weekend to see if I can work out what happened to the mail.

I though I'd set the forum with a max-width style, but it looks like I didn't will fix that too.

OK, the crazy floaty tabs on the Wiki have been tamed. Some CSS-foo was required. The drop down menu on the right hand tab set is off screen, but I'll have to come back to that later.

When you're logged into the Wiki there's a drop down menu for 'Delete, Move and Change' on the right set of tabs.

At the moment it's off screen due to CSS problems.

Or is that only for Sysops?

Yeah, this looks like a good starting point:

Quote:
Community
  • News
  • Projects: A place for users to present stuff and get feedback
  • Off Topic
  • Site Issues

Programming
  • C/C++
  • C#: Transform .Net into C# / .Net, because from a gamedev perspective, most .Net Programming is actually C# - especially since Unity.
  • Java
  • OpenGL / DirectX: A place for OpenGL, DirectX, and the like. XNA is not actually graphics, it's a complete game framework.
  • Other: Language agnostic, mobile, etc.

Art
  • Graphics and Design
  • Sound an Music
  • Game Design

I wonder if we're missing scripting languages out? Python, Lua and others are quite important now.
Also, mobile is a major area that we don't cover.

Last, 'Projects' or 'Announcements'?

Unless there's a bunch of topics on it, i think we should have it in Other languages aswell.
There's no real purpose in a cleanup if we have several empty forums afterwards ;)

Thinking about the merge of OGL/DX. If we name the forum 'Graphics and Game Engines' or something like that, we could cover rising platforms like Unity and Unreal Engine as well as the APIs.

Why not Fortran or LISP? ;) I know that Pascal had a small resurgence with Delphi, but I think we can call it dead now can't we? It is currently 18th and falling on the TIOBE Index.

Yeah definitely!
Mh hard to come up with a name that would describe graphics programming, aswell as frameworks like xna, sdl, engine like unity and ue4 possibly...

I guess we could call it Graphics Programming for now, and add the framework's names in the description?
