I know from GameMaker that it can import images and create a sprite sheet for you. I think it's completely available in the free version of it.

Which part are you struggling with: drawing animated sprites, or the putting the frames together in a sprite sheet?

You seem to have spelt "random" wrong :)

It's a basic question.
I would say there is 2 ways to make a sprite sheet: by hand using graphics editors and using special software that operates with separate parts of a animation(f.e. hand, head or leg).
In any case you should look video tutorials on Sprite animation webpage:

good luck :thumbs

Check out Introduction to Sprite Sheets.

If you're looking for software, Spriter might be of interest, although you can certainly use more traditional software, such as the very popular graphicsgale mentioned above.

Hope that helps! :)

//EDIT: Whoops, just realised this is a pretty ancient topic the previous poster necro'd. Nonetheless, I'd recommend the above to anyone with a similar question.
